W. McNeil Lowry has been named president of the San Francisco Ballet Assn., chairman George James has announced. A former vice president of the Ford Foundation’s Division of Humanities and Arts, Lowry has written widely on social and economic aspects of the arts, with “The Arts and Public Policy in the United States” his most recent book. On his appointment, Lowry said that “governance was becoming the first priority among issues facing performing arts companies. I am indeed proud to be asked to share in meeting this challenge.”
