HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL : Notre Dame Upends Harvard With 3 Second-Quarter Scores

Notre Dame, which has struggled against running teams, benefited Friday from the absence of Harvard’s Marty Holly.

Holly, who had rushed for 315 yards in 3 previous games, has hamstring injuries in both legs and played only on defense except for a brief appearance at quarterback late in the game.

In this first meeting between the schools, Notre Dame went on to win in convincing fashion, 27-6, at Harvard in a San Fernando Valley League opener.

Notre Dame, which had yielded 880 rushing yards in 5 games, limited Holly-less Harvard to 124.

The Knights (4-2 overall, 1-0 in league play) jumped to a 20-0 halftime lead with a 3-touchdown explosion in the second quarter.

Greg Andrachick scored the Knights’ first touchdown on a 1-yard sneak and threw a 24-yard screen pass to Errol Small for the second. Mark Flynn then recovered an errant Harvard snap in the end zone on a punt attempt.

Small rushed 15 times for 101 yards and added a 42-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Andrachick completed 8 of 12 passes for 139 yards.

David Michels (40 yards in 13 carries) and Grant Marston (33 in 9) tried to pick up the offensive slack for Harvard (4-2, 0-1).
