Peter Graves, it would seem, is on a mission to work.

The veteran actor has been busy of late. Starting this week, he’ll turn up in the first of two prime-time series.

On Monday, Graves will return as host of public TV’s “Discover: The World of Science” (9 p.m. on Channels 28 and 15). Back for its fourth season, the program will open with reports on a group of captive predators, new methods of catching criminals and a human-powered helicopter.

Next Sunday, the silver-haired star has an equally familiar assignment. As James Phelps, leader of the Impossible Missions Force, he will head a new cast of operatives in ABC’s “Mission: Impossible.”

The suspense series had its first, and highly successful, seven-year run on CBS from 1966 to 1973. On ABC, it will be seen from 8 to 9 p.m.
