The 15-year-old unlicensed driver of a pickup truck carrying seven other teen-age boys was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter after the speeding truck rolled over on a Pacoima street, killing one of the boys and injuring the others, Los Angeles police said Tuesday.

The names of the injured boys, whose ages range from 13 to 15, were not released by police because they are juveniles. All are from Pacoima. The youth killed in the 6:10 p.m. accident Monday was identified as Juan Garcia, 14, also of Pacoima.

Police said the borrowed pickup truck was traveling at high speed on De Foe Avenue when the vehicle swerved and tipped over at the intersection with Pierce Street.

Garcia was sitting in the front of the pickup with the driver and another boy. The five boys who were sitting in the back of the pickup were thrown out when the truck tipped over. The victims were treated at four area hospitals. Two suffered critical injuries while one was seriously injured, and the four others had only minor injuries, police said.
