McClain Jeffrey Moredock has assumed the position of headmaster of the Chadwick School, 26800 S. Academy Drive, Palos Verdes Peninsula. Moredock was previously headmaster of the Foxcroft School in Middleburg, Va. He did graduate studies at the University of New Mexico and has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in philosophy and theology and counseling. He and his wife, Etta Mueller Moredock, have two children, Cameron and Meredyth. Moredock succeeds Donald Loyal Leavenworth, who served as headmaster of the school for 16 years prior to retiring in July.

Lawrence (Larry) E. Guyer Jr. is president of the Kiwanis Club of Hawthorne, succeeding Robert Klein. New board members are Warner McGuyre, John Carrillo, Dennis Wild and Les Wixon. Palos Verdes Estates resident Everett W. Durfee is the new president of the board of directors of the Volunteer Center, South Bay-Harbor-Long Beach. He is a retired executive of Hughes Aircraft Co. Charles D. Barker was recently honored for 25 years of service on Metropolitan Water District’s board of directors. The San Pedro resident is a past director and executive committee member of West Basin Municipal Water District and represents that district on the Metropolitan board. He was director of and helped form the Central and West Basin Water Replenishment District, retiring last month after nearly 30 years with the district. He is also a member of the Los Angeles County Beach Advisory Committee.

Hawthorne resident Sergio R. Gonzalez was honored recently for his design of a poster observing Minority Enterprise Development Week, Oct. 2 to 8. The 37-year-old Cuban-born graphics artist at Northrop Corp.’s Hawthorne Aircraft Division, received a certificate of appreciation from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency and the Small Business Administration.

Father Thomas P. Rausch, has been elected to the board of trustees of Loyola Marymount University. Rausch is rector of the Jesuit Community and professor of theology at Loyola Marymount University. The Jesuit and Marymount institution, the largest Catholic university in Southern California, will celebrate its 75th anniversary next year.

Ruth August of Torrance and Pat Platz of Palos Verdes Estates have been selected by South Coast Botanic Garden Foundation as Volunteers of the Year. The foundation is a public and volunteer support group for Los Angeles County’s public South Coast Botanic Gardens, 26300 Crenshaw Blvd., Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Gordon P. Stiegler, chairman of the Norris Theatre Management Board, has announced that Diana Martin has been elected to the board. Martin will fill the position left vacant when board member Pamela Valeski moved to San Francisco.
