Zena’s Comeback Starts Tuesday With Country Club Bout

It took junior lightweight Mike Zena 15 fights to slug his way into the world rankings. And just 1 round to tumble out.

When Zena stopped world-ranked Keith Stevenson in just 1 round in South Lake Tahoe this summer to improve his record to 14-0-1 with 8 knockouts, it guaranteed the Hayward fighter his first appearance in the World Boxing Council rankings.

But a month later, Zena, ranked 29th by the WBC, returned to Tahoe to fight Mauricio Beltran. Ahead on points going into the final round, Zena chose to slug it out with Beltran and lost a close decision.

For Zena, the road back to the world rankings will start Tuesday night at The Country Club in Reseda in the 10-round main event against Armando Baeza (11-3-1, 5 knockouts) of Norwalk.

Also on Tuesday’s card will be 2 of the 3 Weaver triplets of Diamond Bar. Middleweight Lloyd (4-0, 3 knockouts) will face Antonio Guerra (7-4, 5 knockouts) of Los Angeles, and junior middleweight Floyd (5-1-1, 3 knockouts) will meet Higinio Soriano (6-4, 6 knockouts) of Acapulco, Mexico.

First bell is scheduled for 7 p.m.
