Unseeded Paolo Cane of Italy stunned Stefan Edberg, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, Tuesday night in a second-round match of the $642,500 Stockholm Open-Scandinavian tennis championships at Stockholm.

“I had nothing to lose and I played very relaxed,” Cane said. “I knew I had a chance to beat him if he didn’t serve well.”

Edberg didn’t, especially in the third set. The Swede, ranked third in the world and a two-time defending champion here, had his serve broken three times in the final set.
