Local News in Brief : Santiago Canyon : Dump Truck Rolls Over, Fatally Injuring Driver
A El Toro man was killed Friday after he was thrown from his dump truck and it rolled over him as it careened down an embankment off Santiago Canyon Road, authorities said.
California Highway Patrol Officer Michael Lundquist said the driver, identified as Jim F. Rotondo, 27, was traveling on Santiago Canyon Road when the truck drifted to the right shoulder.
The driver jerked the steering wheel to the left and the truck overturned and began rolling over, Lundquist said.
Rotondo was not wearing a seat belt. “Had he been buckled up with a seat belt, it might have saved his life,” Lundquist said.
