NBA Roundup : Portland Loses Again in Denver

The Portland Trail Blazers continue to lose in the Mile High City.

Alex English scored 30 points and Michael Adams 29 to lead the Denver Nuggets past Portland, 135-115, Thursday night and extend the Trail Blazers’ winless streak in Denver to 12 games over 5 years.

Adams made 10 of 20 shots and 5 of 5 free throws. He hit 4 3-pointers and has made at least 1 in an NBA-record 47 consecutive games.

Portland never led but pulled within 4 points early in the third quarter. Terry Porter scored 4 consecutive baskets to open the fourth quarter and move the Trail Blazers within 96-90, but Denver then went on an 11-4 run.

Clyde Drexler led Portland with 32 points.

Houston 106, Utah 99--Akeem Olajuwon scored 17 of his game-high 35 points in the fourth quarter at Houston to lead the Rockets.

Houston trailed, 81-75, at the end of three quarters. Olajuwon, who had a game-high 19 rebounds, scored the Rockets’ first 7 points of the fourth quarter, pulling Houston within 84-82.

A Bernard Thompson free throw gave Houston the lead at 88-87 with 6:42 to go, and Olajuwon’s basket with 5:57 left increased the lead to 3.

Rookie Derrick Chievous scored 27 points for the Rockets.

Thurl Bailey scored 31 points for Utah, while Karl Malone had 25 points and 10 rebounds.
