Fed up with the poor image of college athletes, Tony Barone, the Creighton basketball coach, said his players will spend Thanksgiving working in a soup kitchen for the homeless.
The fourth-year coach also announced the formation of a new booster organization, which will donate 20% of its membership dues to assist homeless people in Omaha, Neb., where the school is located.
“I want our players to understand what the world is about,” Barone said. “I’m sick of the world of athletics--specifically, the world of intercollegiate basketball--being criticized for a few idiots.”
