The identity of the dead man, a passenger who was believed to be in his early 20s, was unknown, said a spokesman for the San Diego County coroner’s office. He died at the scene, the coroner’s spokesman said.

The accident occurred at 9:30 a.m., police said, as the car, traveling west at high speed on Valley Parkway, failed to negotiate a curve at the intersection of Valley Boulevard. Firefighters were called to free those trapped inside the car.
