High School Football Playoffs Roundup : Millikan Mowed Down by Bishop Amat, 35-0

Bishop Amat (9-2), the third-seeded team in the Southern Section Division I football playoffs, routed Millikan, 35-0, Friday night in a first-round game at Bishop Amat.

Lancer running back Adam Rogers and quarterback Brian Harmon provided the offensive punch. Rogers gained 112 yards in 19 carries and caught 2 passes for 36 yards, and Harmon completed 10 of 21 passes for 161 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Pat Sullivan had 2 receptions for 81 yards and Tim Aguayo 2 catches for 52 yards and 1 touchdown to account for the bulk of Bishop Amat’s receiving yardage.

Bishop Amat had 179 yards passing and 202 yards rushing and limited Millikan to no yards passing and minus-6 yards rushing. Loran Cannon had 2 interceptions for Bishop Amat.

Other Southern Section playoff first-round highlights:

Servite 35, Eisenhower 17--Running back Derek Brown gained 274 yards and scored 4 touchdowns in 24 carries to help Servite to a Division I win at Fullerton. Brown has gained 1,985 yards this season. Servite will play Crespi, which upset Long Beach Poly, in the second round.

Crespi 26, Long Beach Poly 23--Crespi running back Russell White gained only 29 yards in 10 carries in the first half but he accounted for 112 yards in the third quarter as the Celts rallied from a 17-6 halftime deficit to win the Division I game at Long Beach Wilson. After Crespi (6-5) took a 26-23 advantage in the fourth quarter, Poly drove to the Crespi 6-yard line, but Michael Carter threw a pass in the end zone that was interception by White. Long Beach Poly finished the season 8-1-1.

Antelope Valley 37, Dos Pueblos 10--Running back Tommie Smith had 32 carries for 242 yards and touchdown runs of 4, 68 and 8 yards in a Division II playoff game at Antelope Valley High. Derrick Menzy added 75 yards on 13 carries for Antelope Valley as the Antelopes improved to 9-2. Dos Pueblos closed to 13-10 midway through the third quarter before Antelope Valley scored 24 straight points. Dos Pueblos finished the season 6-4-1.

Schurr 27, Cerritos 6--Running back Cesar Burgueno had touchdown runs of 31 and 7 yards to lead Schurr to a Division III win at Montebello High. Schurr (9-2) also had touchdowns from Frank Martinez on a 19-yard run and Jose Soloman on a 6-yard pass from Jay Macias. The only points for Cerritos (7-3-1) were scored on a 9-yard run by Joseph Lindsay.

Los Altos 27, Montebello 6--Junior running back Roger Boden gained 124 yards on 17 carries and tossed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Todd Slosek in a Division IV game at Los Altos High. Los Altos improved to 10-1 and Montebello finished at 6-5.

El Rancho 27, Hacienda Heights Wilson 6--Daryl Bell rushed for 144 yards on 15 carries and scored 1 touchdown and Ralph Delatorre added touchdown runs of 1 and 8 yards for El Rancho (9-2) in the Division IV game at El Rancho. Wilson (5-6) scored its only points on a 4-yard run by Mark Arreola.

La Palma Kennedy 17, Estancia 14--Larry Jensen kicked a 26-yard field goal with 33 seconds remaining to give Kennedy a Division VI win at Western High. Kennedy pulled within 3 points with 1:56 remaining in the game on Kurtis Lindquist’s 2-yard run. The score was set up on a 4th-and-21 completion of 50 yards from Peter Montera to Tom Deep. Kennedy is now 8-2-1; Estancia finishes the season 7-3-1.

CITY

South Gate 21, Lincoln 0--Junior running back Ivan Wilson gained 232 yards and scored 3 touchdowns for No. 2 seeded South Gate (11-0) in a 3-A Division game at South Gate. Lincoln quarterback Ismael Gallegas was intercepted 4 times, twice by Juan Garrido. Lincoln finished the season 6-5.
