Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Couple Killed in Texas Crash; 2 Passengers OK
A Santa Ana couple died on an ice-slickened Texas freeway this weekend after their car spun out of control and slammed into an oncoming tractor-trailer near the Oklahoma border, authorities said.
Rajendrakumar Patel, 26, and his wife, Bhaumini Patel, 21, were killed Saturday afternoon when their car slid under the truck, Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin King said.
The couple’s 6-month-old daughter, Ishma Patel, and another passenger in the back seat--Suryakant Patel, 32, a visitor from India--were both in good condition Sunday at Shamrock General Hospital, King said.
The Patels were westbound on Interstate 40 from Oklahoma shortly after 2:30 p.m. and approaching the Texas town of Shamrock when their car slid out of control as they approached a bridge, King said.
