Santa Ana police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said the victim was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital & Medical Center, where he died early this morning.

“The victim was approaching a car where some of his friends were” when a man walked up and the two began arguing, Thomas said. “He pulled a handgun from his waistband and then shot him once in the chest.”

Sgt. Randy Eldridge said the gunman fled the scene and has not been apprehended.

Eldridge said there had been shootings and prostitution activity near the bar in the past.
