Medical Waste Spills on Road
A bag of sterilized surgical waste fell off a truck and broke open in Huntington Beach this morning, spewing bags of blood, tubing and surgical equipment over a major intersection.
Three bags spilled along Warner Avenue near Beach Boulevard, but only one broke open, prompting Huntington Beach police to call Orange County Health Department officials to the scene. The bags had been steam sterilized to remove viruses and bacteria, and they posed no threat to the public, said Sharon Dixon, a hazardous waste specialist with the Health Department.
