On Two-Lane Road

The accident occurred about 10:15 a.m. on the two-lane highway just east of Fish Hatchery Road in Fillmore, CHP Officer Steve Griffith said.

Shoults traveling east in a Dodge pickup and, for an unknown reason, swerved into the westbound lane, colliding head-on with the Hyundai, Griffith said.

Ventura County Fire Department Capt. Frank Horn said there were empty beer cans in the pickup and it appeared that the driver “had been drinking.”

The highway, which has no center divider and has been the scene of frequent accidents, was closed in both directions for nearly 4 hours.
