Local News in Brief : Muggers Throw Man in Blazing Dumpster
A 34-year-old man was thrown into a blazing trash dumpster and set afire after being robbed of $5 by four muggers near MacArthur Park early Friday.
Jeffery Raub of Burbank was listed in good condition at the County-USC Medical Center burn ward Friday afternoon, with second- and third-degree burns over 19% of his body, authorities said.
Raub told police that he was in an alley near Alvarado and West 8th Street shortly before 1 a.m. when he was accosted by the assailants, who beat him with clubs and took $5 from his front pants pocket before throwing him into the metal bin, which was already ablaze to warm chilly transients. Raub managed to climb out of the burning dumpster and extinguish the flames, police said.
