Southern Section Football Playoffs : Servite Is Semifinal Host Against Fountain Valley

Servite High School will play host to Fountain Valley in the semifinals of the Southern Section Division I football playoffs at 7:30 Friday night either at Anaheim’s Glover Stadium or Santa Ana Stadium. An announcement on the site is expected Monday.

The winner will advance to the championship game Dec. 9, at Anaheim Stadium. Servite (10-2) won the division championship in 1982 and 1983; Fountain Valley (10-2) was the champion in 1978 and runner-up in 1980 and 1987.

The division’s top-seeded team, Loyola (12-0), will play host to Bishop Amat (10-2) in the other semifinal game. Loyola has reached the semifinals after failing to advance past the quarterfinals in 11 consecutive seasons under Coach Steve Grady.

In Division III, surprising El Modena (7-5) will play host to second-seeded Los Alamitos (11-0-1) at Fred Kelly Stadium and top-seeded Mission Viejo (12-0) will travel to fourth-seeded Paramount (10-1).

In Division VI, top-seeded Valencia (11-0-1) will play host to Fullerton (7-4-1) at Bradford Stadium, and third-seeded Corona del Mar (10-0-2) will play host to second-seeded Pacifica (10-1-1) at Orange Coast College’s LeBard Stadium.

In Division VIII, Trabuco Hills (10-2) won a coin flip and will play host to top-seeded Atascadero (12-0) at Mission Viejo High, and Woodbridge (11-1) will travel to Agoura (8-3-1).
