Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Holiday Parade to Be Led by Bill Medley

Share

Bill Medley--Righteous Brother, Southland nightclub owner and Santa Ana High School graduate--will be the grand marshal of the 1988 Holiday Parade in Santa Ana on Saturday.

“He’s pretty visible in Orange County,” said parade president Nancy Viking, “so we think he’s appropriate for grand marshal.”

Medley and fellow Righteous Brother Bobby Hatfield, the “blue-eyed soul” duo, had numerous Top-40 hits in the 1960s and 1970s. Medley, Hatfield and another partner operate The Hop nightclubs in Fountain Valley and Lakewood. Earlier this year, Medley won a Grammy for his duet with Jennifer Warnes, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” the love theme from the hit movie “Dirty Dancing.”

Medley--the tall “brother” with the deep voice--will ride in a cream-colored, 1933 Packard touring car, surrounded by cheerleaders from Santa Ana High School, which, like Orange County, is celebrating its centennial this year. The 90-minute parade, sponsored by The Times Orange County Edition, starts at 10 a.m. It will include 22 marching bands, 15 floral theme floats and 100 Mexican cowboys.
