Defenseless UC Irvine Plays San Diego State
UC Irvine was supposed to run, gun and giggle this basketball season, but poor shooting and a porous defense have produced only grim faces around the Bren Center.
The Anteaters (1-2) will play their first road game at 7:30 tonight when they meet San Diego State (2-0) at the San Diego Sports Arena, and it appears that things could get worse before they get better.
The Aztecs rolled over Baylor at Waco, Tex., 83-58, Tuesday night.
Irvine’s inside defense has been ineffective so far, and the Anteaters don’t have anyone who can guard the Aztecs’ 6-foot 10-inch senior center, Mitch McMullen. He is averaging 16 points a game.
