Golf Roundup : Hatalsky Team Leads After a 64

Morris Hatalsky and Donna White combined for an 8-under-par 64 Friday to take a 2-stroke lead after 2 rounds of the $800,000 J.C. Penney golf tournament at Largo, Fla.

Hatalsky and White birdied 5 of their first 9 holes and finished 36 holes at 132. Their 64 was the best round of the mixed-team tournament.

Brad Faxon and Jody Rosenthal finished with a 67, despite bogeying the final 2 holes, and their 134 left them in a 4-way tie for second place with Jay Haas and Patty Sheehan, the first-round leaders, who shot a 69; Larry Mize and Martha Nause, who had a 68, and Mike Sullivan and Sally Little, who had a 66.

Ben Crenshaw shot a 7-under-par 65 for a 36-hole total of 133 and a 2-shot lead halfway through the $1.25-million Australian Bicentennial tournament at Melbourne.

Fred Couples and Australian Rodger Davis were tied for second place. Couples, the first-round leader, shot a 69, while Davis had a 67.

Don Pooley and Ken Green shot par 72s in the second round and remained tied for the lead after 36 holes of the Million Dollar Challenge at Sun City, South Africa.

Pooley and Green were at 139. One shot back in the 8-player field was South African David Frost, who had a 69.

Former quarterback John Brodie fired a 7-under-par 65 to take a 1-stroke lead after one round at Kaanapali, Hawaii, in the final event on the PGA Seniors Tour.

Emilee Klein, 14, of Sherman Oaks defeated Heather Hughes of Palo Alto, 2 and 1, to advance to the semifinals of the California State Women’s Amateur at Carmel Valley, Calif.
