Oakland police said they were searching for a motive and suspect in the fatal shooting of a Newark man while driving home from San Francisco along Interstate 880. Officers said Lawrence Ellingsen was on 880 near the Martin Luther King Way crossing when he was struck in the head by gunfire from a passing car. The Alameda County coroner’s office said Ellingsen, 53, died shortly after arrival at Highland Hospital in Oakland.
