An elderly woman who nearly drowned trying to escape flames during a pier fire last week in Morro Bay has died, becoming the second victim of the blaze. Naomi Griffith, 78, of Morro Bay died at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, nursing supervisor Leslie Roberts said. She was being treated at the hospital after jumping off a boat when a neighboring vessel caught fire. Altogether, 12 boats and two cars were destroyed in the fire last Thursday morning.
