Giants Deal Mike Aldrete for Tracy Jones
The San Francisco Giants, shut out in trading during baseball’s winter meetings, sent outfielder Mike Aldrete to the Montreal Expos for outfielder Tracy Jones Thursday.
Jones, 27, a right-handed hitter, batted a combined .295 for the Cincinnati Reds and Montreal last season with 3 home runs and 24 runs batted in in 90 games. The left-handed hitting Aldrete, 28, batted .267 with 3 homers and 50 RBIs in 139 games.
The Expos made another deal, acquiring shortstop Spike Owen and minor league pitcher Dan Gakeler from Boston for right-handed pitcher John Dopson and infielder Luis Rivera. Owen, who hit .249 with 5 homers, lost his job in June to rookie Jody Reed.
