Hikers Make Camp, Spur 2-Hour Search
Three hikers who decided to spend the night in a rugged part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area were found by sheriff’s deputies after a two-hour search Sunday morning, authorities said.
“They just elected not to hike out in the dark,” Sheriff’s Lt. Jim Glazar said. “But they didn’t tell their families, who got worried.”
The young men, all Malibu residents who were not immediately identified, were due to return at sunset Saturday from hiking north of Malibu.
Searchers found them about 5:30 a.m., Glazar said.
