Local News in Brief : Natural Gas Pipe Cap Bursts in Porter Ranch
- Share via
Natural gas spewed for at least 5 hours Wednesday when the cap of a 6-inch pipe burst in Porter Ranch, authorities said.
The rupture occurred in the 12500 block of Tampa Avenue about 5:30 p.m. as Southern California Gas Co. employees were doing maintenance work, said Rich Puz, a gas company spokesman.
Gas company workers were trying to plug the leak late Wednesday while two Los Angeles County Fire Department engine companies stood by, Puz said.
The pipe, a few miles north of the area ravaged by fires last week, feeds into a massive underground reservoir used for gas storage, Puz said.
