A 38-year-old Laguna Beach woman was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving after her car struck and killed a jogger as he ran in front of University High School in Irvine Thursday night, police said.

The male jogger, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has not been identified, Irvine Police Lt. Pat Rodgers said.

“He is in his early 20s, and that’s all we know,” he said. “We probably won’t have an identification of him for 24 hours.”

The driver of the car, identified as Christine Grange, was not injured, authorities said.

Rodgers said the accident occurred about 7 p.m. He said the jogger was running in the northbound bicycle lane of Culver Drive, near Campus Drive, when he was hit. The victim was wearing sweat pants and a cotton shirt and carried no identification.

The accident scene is near UC Irvine, where many students run or jog along nearby streets, but police said they do not know whether the victim was a UCI student.
