Sheriff’s detectives have arrested a Marine suspected of assaulting and robbing several women at automatic bank-teller machines.

Dale Edward Bush, 21, was arrested Monday on suspicion of three counts of robbery, three counts of battery, two counts of indecent exposure and two counts of committing a lewd act in public, said Detective Jenene Milakovich of the Sheriff’s Department. Bush, who is assigned to Camp Pendleton, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday, and is scheduled for a settlement conference with prosecutors Dec. 23, said a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.

Bush is accused in five incidents at three teller machines in Encinitas, Milakovich said. In two cases, an assailant exposed himself to the woman who was using the machine, and in one of those cases he also grabbed the buttocks of the victim, the detective said. In the three other cases, the assailant not only grabbed his victims, but took the money they were withdrawing and ran, Milakovich said.

Milakovich said she pieced the case together when she saw Bush’s picture come through the Sheriff’s Department on an unrelated matter and realized he resembled the man in surveillance photos taken by cameras mounted at the teller machines.

After a photo lineup was shown to the victims, the detective obtained a warrant for Bush’s arrest and picked him up at the Marine base.
