Bill Shoemaker defeated 8 other top riders to win the Miller High Life Jockey Challenge at Balmoral Park in Crete, Ill.

Shoemaker amassed 26 points in the 3 races to edge runner-up Jacinto Vasquez, who had 22.

Sandy Hawley finished third, followed by Pat Day, Randy Romero, Jean Cruguet, Laffit Pincay, Julie Krone and Ray Sibille.

The jockeys rode horses drawn by lot for the fourth, sixth and eighth races on the nine-race card. Shoemaker, 57, won $15,000.
