Local News in Brief : Debris-Filled House Burns; Body Found
- Share via
The body of man characterized by neighbors as a “pack rat” was found beneath a pile of debris Tuesday in the kitchen of a home in the Windsor Hills area of Southwest Los Angeles, about five hours after a fire swept through his home, officials said.
Firefighters said they dug through 50 tons of debris before they found the man in the home in the 5500 block of Onacrest Drive. He was not identified pending notification of relatives.
“We believe it is that of the owner, but the coroner will have to make the final determination,” Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Corey Lovers said.
The flames burned fiercely, fed by “discarded items and garbage-type stuff like papers and bottles” that was stacked 7 or 8 feet high in every room of the large home, said Inspector Elvin Miranda.
