Cornerback Richard Sauls has been suspended by Wyoming coach Paul Roach for undisclosed violations of team rules and will miss next week’s Sea World Holiday Bowl, according to Roach.

Sauls, a 6-foot, 180-pound freshman from Houston, will not make the trip to San Diego for the bowl game with Oklahoma State on Dec. 30.

“Sauls has been suspended from the squad for a violation of team rules,” Roach said today without elaborating.

Sauls played in nine games for the 15th-ranked Cowboys, who take an 11-1 record into the bowl game against 12th-ranked Oklahoma State, 9-2. He started in two of the games and recorded 26 tackles for the season.

Earlier this year Roach suspended another defensive back, Ron Dean, pending “clarification of an alleged misconduct.” Dean’s suspension is still intact. The two suspensions leave Wyoming with just six defensive backs heading into the Holiday Bowl.
