Sherman Douglas scored 27 points Wednesday night at Syracuse, N.Y., leading No. 3-ranked Syracuse to a 94-71 victory over Western Michigan in front of a subdued Carrier Dome crowd stunned by a plane crash earlier in the day that killed at least 36 university students.

Minister Michael Rothermel said a prayer for the students before the game. That was followed by a moment of silence. No survivors were found among 258 passengers on the Pan American jumbo jet that crashed in Scotland on its way to New York.

Syracuse (11-0) built a 40-26 halftime lead with an 18-5 spurt. Douglas and Stephen Thompson each scored 5 points during the run, which made it 23-10.
