Local News in Brief : Yorba Linda : Suspect Arrested in Slaying Outside Store
A suspect in the shooting death of a 23-year-old Yorba Linda man who was gunned down Christmas night outside a convenience store was arrested in Villa Park early Monday, authorities said.
Patrick M. McBurney, 25, was booked into County Jail on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Lance Michael Roney, 23. Roney was shot in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven convenience store in the 19000 block of Yorba Linda Boulevard in Yorba Linda, Police Detective Grant Gulickson said. McBurney was being held without bail.
The suspect was arrested without incident about 5 a.m. Monday at a house in Villa Park, Gulickson said. The suspect’s wife and 2-year-old daughter were with him when he was arrested. Gulickson said investigators also found a weapon that may have been used by the suspect.
Roney was shot in the head and chest outside the store. The victim was flown to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana where he was pronounced dead.
The motive for the killing remains uncertain, Gulickson said.
