Prep Basketball Roundup : Rodarmel Scores 41 Points for Capistrano Valley Christian

Junior forward Jason Rodarmel scored a school-record 41 points to lead Capistrano Valley Christian High School to an 88-72 victory over Whitney in the Olympic League boys’ basketball opener Tuesday at Capistrano Valley Christian.

Rodarmel made both 3-pointers he tried and was 9 of 10 from the free throw line.

Bret Biegert added 16 for Capistrano Valley Christian (6-3 overall and 1-0 in league play).

In another Olympic League game:

Whittier Christian 70, Ontario Christian 55--Whittier Christian scored 7 3-pointers in the league opener for both teams at Ontario Christian. Scott Ferguson led Whittier (8-3, 1-0) with 17 points. Ontario (0-1, 7-4) was led by Billy Nlouw’s 20 points and Michael TeVelde’s 18.

In nonleague boys’ games:

Irvine 73, Los Alamitos 53--Senior guard Bryan Allred scored 21 points and brothers John Molle and Raphael Molle scored 14 points each for visiting Irvine (13-1).

Mike Wilson scored 15 for Los Alamitos (5-10). Irvine led, 35-30, at the half and outscored Los Alamitos, 17-6, in the third quarter.

Savanna 79, Loara 48--Sophomore forward Mustapha Abdi scored 27 points and had 13 rebounds to lead Savanna at home. Jim Priest added 10 points, Aaron Calderon 10 points and 14 assists and Eric Preuss had 12 points for Savanna.

Santa Ana 48, Cypress 40--Mike Zamora scored 11 points, 7 in the final quarter as Santa Ana rallied. Cypress led, 23-22, at the half and, 33-32, at the end of three quarters.

Fullerton 75, Los Altos 64--Forward Curtis Morris scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds and 5 assists, to lead visiting Fullerton (7-5). Pete Bach scored 21 also for Fullerton.

Fountain Valley 60, Dana Hills 47--Tom Weaver scored 18 points and Mike Cook added 12 for visiting Fountain Valley (11-2). John Lloyd scored 23 for Dana Hills (12-5).

Servite 76, Burroughs 66--Servite built a 38-27 halftime lead and held on at Burroughs, holding Dan Murphy (12 points) to only his second game under 20 points this season. Steve Marusich had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead Servite (9-5). Francis Salara added 14 points and 6 assists for Servite.

El Toro 60, Laguna Hills 57--Laguna Hills took a 7-0 lead to start the game but host El Toro rallied. Khari Johnson had 23 points and 16 rebounds for El Toro (10-4), and teammate Rob Johnson added 16. Bo Hossler of Laguna Hills (7-6) scored a game-high 28 points.

El Dorado 70, Sunny Hills 56-- Matt Luke of El Dorado (9-4) led all scorers with 17 points. Marcus Hopkins had 15 and Jeff White 13 for Sunny Hills (8-5).

In nonleague girls’ games:

Fountain Valley 53, Capistrano Valley 30--Capistrano Valley led, 22-21, at the half but made 2 of 28 shots from the field in the second half at Fountain Valley.

Fountain Valley outscored Capistrano Valley, 15-4, in the third quarter and 17-4 in the fourth. Stacy Hisaka scored 11 and Kami Bigler and Yvettet Ybarra scored 10 each for Fountain Valley (9-6). Shelley Zierhut scored 10 for Capistrano Valley (12-3).

Mission Viejo 56, Costa Mesa 34--Kristin Okura scored 21 points and Tina Ranker had 14 assists to lead host Mission Viejo (12-3). Jenny Rohrig added 10 for Mission Viejo. Trang Nguyen scored 15 and Maureen Moore 10 for Costa Mesa.

Orange 45, Sonora 25--Ginnie Hall scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds and Laurie Sallinger scored 14 points for host Orange (7-5).

Canyon 70, Troy 24-- Keri Erkenbrach scored 25 points to lead Canyon at home. Christa Ramirez and Jill Zaborniak each added 14 points for Canyon (9-4), which led at halftime, 44-10. Melissa Clevenger had 10 for Troy.

Edison 49, Mater Dei 34--Krisden Taneabe scored 16 points and had 8 rebounds and Debbie Fisher added 14 points and 4 steals to lead Edison (4-7) at Mater Dei. Cori Martin scored 12 and Kelly O’Brien 10 for Mater Dei (9-5).

Savanna 33, Loara 25--Karena Lee, Michelle Drew and Jackie Boxley scored 8 points each for host Savanna. Lee scored 7 of her points in the last quarter when she was 5 of 5 from the free throw line. Savanna is 8-4; Loara is 10-6.

Foothill 58, Tustin 51--Center Tanya Fox scored 26 points and had 10 rebounds to lead host Foothill (7-7). Teresa Perkins scored 16 and Wanda Sequeira 10 for Tustin.

Esperanza 71, Fullerton 18--Forward Karen Dalla Rosa scored 23 points and had 5 assists and 5 steals to pace Esperanza (5-8).

University 53, Irvine 20--Shelley Davis scored 12 points--8 in the first quarter--to lead University, which opened a 16-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. University (10-3), also received 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists from Denise Gandara.

Saddleback 57, Los Amigos 40--Melody Mayfield scored 35 points to pace visiting Saddleback. Amy Pearson had 15 points and Angela Fischbeck 12 points for Los Amigos (2-6).
