Gary Moss, basketball coach at Sam Houston State University who was disciplined by the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. for recruiting violations that occurred while he coached at West Texas State, has been fired, school officials announced.

The NCAA recently ruled that the West Texas basketball program illegally recruited players and provided players with free airplane travel, telephone credit cards and cash while Moss was with the university from 1984-87.
