Local News in Brief : North County : Victim of Plane Crash Was Covina Resident

A woman who died in a plane crash with two Orange County men earlier this week was identified today as 23-year-old Annette Momilani Sorgent of Covina.

Sorgent and Charles Robert Adams, 49, of Orange and Phillip Earl Hay, 47, of Fullerton were killed Tuesday when their single-engine Beechcraft crashed into a San Joaquin County almond orchard and burst into flames, authorities said.

The two men, both pilots, were on a business trip when the plane crashed at Caswell Memorial State Park, about 15 miles south of Stockton. Authorities have determined that Adams was piloting the plane.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but Adams had told air traffic controllers that ice was forming on the wings and that he was losing control of the aircraft, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Baxter Dunn said.

Both Hay and Adams worked for the P.W. Stephens Co., a contracting firm in the City of Industry, and were returning to El Monte from Hayward in the company plane. Authorities said that Sorgent did not work for the company and that they had not determined why she was on the plane.
