A Northridge man was arrested Friday on suspicion of bilking a Simi Valley golf course of $18,000 by promising to provide the course with golf balls, big-screen televisions and four luxury cars at bargain prices.

David Creditor, 46, was arrested on suspicion of grand theft by Simi Valley and Los Angeles police, said Simi Valley Police Lt. Richard Thomas. Creditor was being held at the Ventura County Jail on $250,000 bail.

It all started Sept. 30 when Creditor, using the alias Jack McDonald, told managers of the Wood Ranch Country Club that he could supply them with golf balls at a 60% discount, Thomas said. Creditor received $4,500 to purchase the balls, which he claimed were tied up in bankruptcy court, he said.

Creditor later offered the club big-screen television sets for $500 each, Thomas said. The club gave him $3,500. In October, Creditor offered to sell the club two Mercedes-Benzes and two Jaguars. The club gave him $10,000 as a deposit, Thomas said.
