An autopsy failed to determine the cause of death of Jack Kent Cooke II, the 26-year-old grandson of Washington Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke, who was found dead in his Glendale apartment last week, officials said Monday.

The younger Cooke, who is also the stepson of NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle, was found about 4 p.m. Friday in his apartment after a friend became concerned when he had not seen him for some time, Glendale Police Sgt. Dean Durand said. “There was no evidence of foul play. However, it was obvious he had been deceased for some time,” Durand said.

An autopsy performed Sunday failed to determine the cause of death and toxicological tests that can take a couple of weeks to complete were requested, said Pat Smith, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

In addition to owning the Washington Redskins, Cooke’s grandfather owns the Daily News of Los Angeles.
