A Fountain Valley man apparently out for a morning walk was hit by a pickup truck Tuesday and doctors later had to amputate a portion of his mangled right leg, police said.

Lloyd Gage, 60, was near the curb walking in the north lane of Euclid Street at Bellflower Avenue about 6:40 a.m. when he was struck by the truck, according to Police Sgt. Larry Griswold.

The driver, a 19-year-old Garden Grove man, was not injured. He was not cited pending further investigation of the incident, Griswold said.

Gage was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, where his lower right leg was amputated. He was in serious condition after surgery, according to hospital spokeswoman Cathy Hecklinski.

Gage’s wife told police her husband regularly takes morning walks, Griswold said.
