Master’s Stumbles in Baseball Opener
Jeff Preston hit 2 home runs and knocked in 3 runs for The Master’s College, but host Cal State Los Angeles rallied for 2 runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Mustangs, 7-6, Saturday in a baseball opener.
With Master’s leading, 6-5, in the ninth, Mustang relief pitcher Ray Cartagena gave up 2 walks and Brad Mengel hit a run-scoring double for Cal State L. A. to tie the score. Mike Lau knocked in the winning run on a bad-hop single that bounced off the nose of Mustang second baseman Craig Johnson.
Preston hit a 2-run home run in the first to lead a 4-run Master’s rally and added a solo blast in the sixth.
