In Brief : White Sox’s Walker Cleared to Play
White Sox first baseman Greg Walker, out of play since he suffered a seizure on the field last summer, has been given a “clean bill of health” and is planning to report to spring training next month, a club spokesman reported.
Walker, 29, last week was released to start playing again by the neurologist who has been treating him for a focal infection in the brain, a condition provoked by a virus, spokesman Chuck Adams said Monday.
“He has now come off medication and has been given a clean bill of health to resume playing baseball again,” Adams said.
Walker suffered a seizure on the field July 30 and a second one the next day while hospitalized, Adams said.
Walker is planning to go to White Sox camp in Sarasota, Fla., on Feb. 16, when pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report.
Walker, who has played with the American League team since 1982, has a career batting average of .267.
