College Roundup : USIU Pulls Out 7-5 Victory in the Ninth Over UC Irvine
United States International University hit four home runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth inning, for a 7-5 victory over UC Irvine Wednesday in a nonconference baseball game.
The score was tied, 5-5, with one out in the ninth when freshman designated hitter Rick Page hit a two-run homer off Steve May (0-1).
Jeff Oswalt pitched one inning in relief for the victory. USIU is 3-2.
Irvine (1-2-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first. Stacy Parker led off with a double and went to third on a single by Al Rodriguez. Freddie Coombs singled home Parker and Courtney Davis singled home Rodriguez.
USIU scored one run in the first on a home run by Steve May and took the lead in the third on a three-run homer by Scott Coutts.
Barry Williams hit a solo home run for USIU in the sixth.
Arizona State 10, Chapman 3--A two-run single by Dan Rumsey sparked a six-run first as host Arizona State stopped a three-game losing streak.
The Sun Devils (5-3) chased starter John Hulshof (0-1) in the first inning.
Chapman (3-4) cut the score to 6-3 on Tony Gardea’s solo homer in the second inning and two runs in the fourth.

Cal State Fullerton 29, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 12--The host Titans (12-6, 4-0) were led by Scott Schumm, who pinned Bill Grundler at 1 minute 55 seconds.
