Prep Soccer Roundup : Kennedy Boys Upset No. 1 Pacifica

Diego Abbes scored the only goal in Kennedy High School’s 1-0 victory over top-ranked Pacifica in a Garden Grove League boys’ soccer match Wednesday at Kennedy.
The Mariners (15-1-1 overall, 9-1-1 in league play) are ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section 2-A.
About 28 minutes into the game, Abbess took a pass from Kim Kyoang, dribbled through two defenders and scored from eight yards out. The Fighting Irish are 10-4-3 and 8-2-1.
In the Garden Grove League:
La Quinta 4, Garden Grove 0--Steve Kalajian scored two goals to lead the Aztecs (10-7-3, 7-2-2). Garden Grove is 2-7-2 in league play.
In the Century League:
Santa Ana 1, Villa Park 1--Gus Plasencia scored for Santa Ana (16-1-6, 6-0-3) at Villa Park. Karl Arnold scored for Villa Park (10-4-7, 1-3-5).
Canyon 1, Foothill 0--Fred Velez scored 7 minutes into the first half for Canyon (15-2-5, 5-0-4).
In the Empire League:
Esperanza 2, Los Alamitos 0--Dan Martinez scored both goals for the Aztecs (11-3-2, 6-2-1) at Los Alamitos.
In the Freeway League:
La Habra 6, Fullerton 0--Jammie Hutcherson scored two goals for La Habra (8-6-4, 4-2-3) at Fullerton.
Troy 2, Sonora 1--Paul McDonald and Tim Roach scored for Troy (8-0-1 in league play) at Sonora.
Sunny Hills 4, Buena Park 1--Nathan Bachtel and Matt Marino each scored two goals for the Lancers (8-6-4, 6-1-2).
In the Orange League:
Brea Olinda 4, Valencia 1--Jeff Ortiz, Scott Mauir, Jasyn Ochs and David Schwengel scored for visiting Brea (13-3-1, 7-0). David Sanchez scored for Valencia (7-6-1, 2-4-1).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Orange 7, Costa Mesa 0--Omar Vasquez scored two goals to lead host Orange (8-10-4, 6-6-2).
Woodbridge 1, Laguna Beach 0--John Sczcuka scored 10 minutes into the second half as host Woodbridge (10-4-5, 9-1-4) clinched at least a tie for the league title.
In the South Coast League:
Irvine 3, Capistrano Valley 2--Keith Rosenberg had two goals and an assist to lead host Irvine (7-4-8, 2-3-4).
Mission Viejo 3, San Clemente 1--Mark Dotson, Doug Roberson and Jim Eddow scored for Mission Viejo (19-1-3, 6-0-3) at San Clemente.
In the Sunset League:
Ocean View 6, Edison 3--Mark Roosen scored two goals to lead Ocean View (13-7-3, 6-3) at Edison.
Marina 4, Fountain Valley 0--Lance Barker scored three goals to lead host Marina (6-2-1 in league play).
In Angelus League girls’ soccer:
Mater Dei 2, Bishop Montgomery 0--Debbie Lewis and Kim Donahue scored goals as the host Monarchs (18-4-2, 9-1-1) clinched the league championship.
In the Sunset League:
Huntington Beach 1, Westminster 0--Lisa Leiker scored with six minutes left for visiting Huntington Beach (8-9-4, 3-3-4).
