Rebel Rousters Meet Tonight at Irvine

Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine, two teams that have upset Nevada Las Vegas in the past week, meet at 7:30 tonight at Irvine.

Fullerton and Irvine are the only Big West Conference teams that have beaten UNLV this season. Irvine beat UNLV, 99-98, last Saturday night. Fullerton pulled a 93-92 overtime upset Thursday night on Wayne Williams’ three-point shot at the buzzer.

Irvine (9-11, 6-5) won the first meeting with Fullerton this season, taking a 77-73 victory Feb. 2, in a game in which center Ricky Butler scored a career-high 23 points. Since then, Butler has scored at least 20 points in two other Irvine victories.

The Anteaters, who have won three games in a row, will be trying to put together a four-game winning streak for the first time since January, 1987.

Fullerton (10-10, 5-6) has won two straight since the loss to Irvine, upsetting UC Santa Barbara and UNLV. The Titans’ Cedric Ceballos, a 6-foot-7 forward, is leading the Big West in scoring, averaging 21.5 points a game.
