High School Basketball Roundup

Boys’ basketball coaches from both Escondido and Rancho Buena Vista High Schools still were not sure late Tuesday if tonight’s scheduled game between the two would be played.

RBV Principal Alan Johnson told Coach John O’Neill Friday that RBV would forfeit the game in order to ease bad feelings between the two schools after a melee Thursday at a wrestling meet. Escondido Coach Mike Williams doesn’t think canceling a basketball game would solve anything and wants to see it played.

“It’s still no,” O’Neill said. “Because our principals haven’t even talked yet. After they talk tomorrow morning . . . I don’t know. We prepared today just like we were going to play, and I know (Escondido) did too.”

The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Escondido. The principals have not yet talked because school was out Monday, and Johnson was in a conference all day Tuesday.

If the game is canceled, Escondido (11-10, 6-6 in Avocado League play) would receive a forfeit victory over RBV (10-13, 6-6).
