The New England Patriots and owner Victor Kiam have been sued for $6 million by a group of creditors involved in the Sullivan Stadium bankruptcy case.
The Patriots have been behind in rental payments on their office building and football stadium located in Foxboro since 1982, said Robert Caporale, attorney to the court-appointed trustee in the bankruptcy case, Stanley Miller.
The family of William Sullivan controlled the Patriots and Sullivan Stadium until last fall when Kiam and Fran Murray headed a group that purchased the team.
In their suit, filed in federal Bankruptcy Court, the creditors claim the Patriots owe the stadium more than $1 million for the 1988 season, $1.6 million for 1987 and lesser amounts that date to 1982, when the Sullivans took control of the stadium.
