John Barnes of Los Alamitos High School and Dave Holland of Corona del Mar have been named coaches for the 30th Orange County All-Star football game, tentatively scheduled June 30 at Orange Coast College.

John Barnes, who will coach the North team, has led Los Alamitos into Southern Section championship games the past two years.

Holland, who will coach the South team, led Corona del Mar to its first undefeated season last fall. Corona del Mar (12-0-2) won the Southern Section’s Division VI football title, defeating Valencia, 17-7, in the championship game.

Los Alamitos compiled a 12-1-1 record last season and won its third Empire League title in four years despite having only three returning starters. The Griffins lost in the Division III championship game to Paramount, 30-20.

In 1987, Los Alamitos shut out seven opponents and allowed only 27 points in 10 regular-season games. The Griffins compiled a 12-2 record, losing to El Toro, 36-6, in the Southern Conference title game.

Under Barnes, Los Alamitos has won 15 consecutive Empire League games, the longest league winning streak in Orange County, and has compiled a 36-3-1 record in regular-season games during the past four years.

Holland has won three Sea View League titles in the past six years since he began his second stint as head coach. He coached at Corona del Mar from 1967-75 and was the South coach in the 1973 all-star game.

Holland is known for his defensive expertise. Corona del Mar allowed an average of only 5.5 points in playoff victories over Troy, Anaheim, Pacifica and Valencia en route to the championship.
