IN BRIEF : Knee Sidelines Ga. Tech Forward

Georgia Tech forward Tom Hammonds, the No. 2 scorer in ACC basketball this season, will miss Saturday’s game against North Carolina State because of a knee injury he suffered in Tuesday’s game. Hammonds suffered a slight tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee during Tech’s victory over Maryland, and did not suspect the problem at first. The condition was diagnosed Thursday. Tech, third in the Atlantic Coast Conference, is one game behind the ACC leader, North Carolina State, going into Saturday’s game in Atlanta. Hammonds, who is averaging 21.5 points a game, will be replaced by senior Anthony Sherrod.
