An unidentified pedestrian was struck by a car and killed Sunday morning on the Ventura Freeway near Encino, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP was investigating reports that the man jumped a fence west of Haskell Avenue and ran into freeway traffic.

The driver has not been identified and is being sought on suspicion of hit and run, said CHP Officer Diane Lowery.

The body, which was found in the right lane of the freeway, blocked traffic in that lane for more than an hour, said CHP Officer Monty Keifer.

The victim, described as an Asian in his 20s, sustained massive head injuries in the accident, which was reported at 8:15 a.m. by a motorist.

Authorities said the man’s death was a possible suicide. They had not been able determine the victim’s identity, investigators said.

An Encino resident called the Los Angeles Police Department to report a man “yelling in the street and banging on doors,” Sgt. Frank Guarino said, and then the man jumped the fence.
