Local News in Brief : Shepherd Finds Body Near Lake Los Angeles

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were attempting Sunday to identify the partially decomposed body of a young man found by a shepherd in the desert.
The body was discovered Saturday afternoon in a shallow grave near a dirt road about five miles southwest of the Antelope Valley community of Lake Los Angeles, said Deputy Ronald Thomason.
The man was dark-haired and appeared to be in his early 20s. Besides signs that animals--possibly coyotes--had preyed upon the body, it bore no obvious wounds, Thomason said.
Deputies believe the man, who was wearing jeans and a light blue jacket, had been dead for between two weeks and one month but could not be more precise because of recent snowfalls.
“The snow would have helped preserve the body,” Thomason said.
